Capturing Mykonos Essential Photography Tips
In this mini guide, I’ll share some essential tips for getting those picture-perfect shots, from utilizing the magical light to braving the island’s famed winds.
1. Embracing the Golden Hours:
- Sunrise: The early morning light in Mykonos is soft and diffused, perfect for capturing the true colors of the landscape. Plus, you’ll find the streets and famous spots like Little Venice blissfully uncrowded.
- Sunset: Mykonos sunsets are legendary. The golden hour before sunset provides a warm, flattering light. Locations like the Windmills of Kato Mili or the hidden viewpoint near 180 Sunset Bar become truly magical.
2. Understanding the Island’s Windy Nature:
- Mykonos is known as the ‘Island of the Winds’. This can add a dramatic effect to your photos, especially with flowing dresses but can be a challenge if you are solo in Mykonos. Be sure to get a sturdy tripod and protect your camera equipment from sand and sea spray.
3. Finding the Perfect Angle:
- Mykonos’ unique architecture and narrow streets offer incredible opportunities for creative angles. Try shooting from a low angle for imposing shots of the windmills, or find a high vantage point in Mykonos Town for a panoramic view.
- Don’t forget to capture the iconic ‘I Love Mykonos’ stairs, where standing at the bottom looking up can create a captivating perspective.
4. Utilizing Natural Elements:
- Incorporate natural elements like blooming bougainvillea or the serene Aegean Sea to add depth and interest to your shots. The contrast of the vibrant flowers against the white buildings is a classic Mykonos shot.
5. Capturing the Essence of Mykonos Streets:
- The charm of Mykonos lies in its detailed doorways, colorful windows, and quaint street scenes. Early mornings are ideal for capturing these without the distraction of crowds.
