A Greek Island that is getting all the attention this year is Milos. This might have you wondering, what’s the hype? Is Milos worth visiting??
From my experience, yes, it is worth a visit for sure. But, there are some key factors you want to consider when you’re choosing from the many beautiful Greek Islands.
This island draws its fans for its amazing beaches, unique landscapes, and chill atmosphere.
But, like any destination, it has its downsides too that could be a deal breaker.
To know if Milos is the right pick for you, let’s dive in with the pros and cons.
My goal is to help you figure out if Milos is worth adding to your Greek island bucket list or if you should “hop” to another island.

When Is Milos Worth Visting?
Before we get to the nitty-gritty of whether you want to visit Milos, we need to establish WHEN you should visit Milos.
The importance of planning a trip to the Greek Islands hinges on the “timing” of your visit. It is as essential as choosing the island itself.
The Greek Island’s peak months are late June through early September. This is when the weather will be the warmest, but it will also be when prices and crowds are at their all-time highest.

So if possible, it’s best to visit in late May/early June or mid to late September.
Keep in mind that the island is pretty much closed from mid-October through March.
Reasons You Will Love Visiting Milos
Pro: Unique Geological Features
Milos is honestly one of the coolest islands to visit when it comes to its landscapes.
The most famous of its beaches, Sarakinko Beach, is known for its lunar-like landscape with stark white volcanic rock formations contrasting against the crystal clear blue waters.

Pro: Adventure Water Activities
There are so many things to do in Milos that involve water activities.
Given its island nature, Milos is an ideal destination for anyone who loves kayaking, boating, and various watersports!
One of the best things to do is join boat tours in Milos that take you to hidden coves and sea caves.
If tours aren’t your thing, renting a boat and kayak is easy to do in Milos.
Pro: Authentic & Idyllic Villages
You will love visiting Milos if you are looking to experience real Greek island life.
You can truly immerse yourself in these charming villages, such as Plaka, Klima, and Pollonia.
Plaka is the largest with narrow cobblestone streets, traditional white-washed houses, and breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea.
Pro: Delicious Cusine
Milos is an island for food lovers! Craving some fresh seafood with insane views of the Aegean Sea?
Head on over to Milos immediately. Food that Milos is most known for are:
- Seafood: Fresh fish and seafood are a staple, with dishes like grilled octopus and lobster pasta being popular.
- Pitarakia: Small cheese pies filled with local cheese and mint, a traditional Milos snack.
- Fava: A creamy dip made from yellow split peas, often served with onions and olive oil.
- Karpouzopita: A unique watermelon pie, made with watermelon, honey, and sesame seeds.
- Melopita: A traditional honey pie, made with local honey and cheese.
- Ladenia: A pizza-like dish with a thick crust, topped with tomatoes, onions, and olive oil.
One of the best restaurants to visit for traditional Greek food is O Hamos!

Pro: Less Crowds Than Nearby Islands
Now I am not saying there are no tourists on the island of Milos, but there are far fewer than popular islands like Mykonos and Santorini.
The island is most busy in July and August, so outside those months, you can expect it to be even less crowded.
Reasons You Might Want to Skip Milos
Con: To Fully Explore The Island, You Need A Car
Getting a rental car might not seem like a con for some, but if you don’t drive it could be something to consider.
While you can use the island public transport system to get around Milos, it can be inconvenient to depend on its limited schedule.
There are some hidden gems and fishing villages that you will miss altogether without having your own vehicle.
Con: Boutique Hotels Are Expensive & Book Quickly
I was lucky enough to stay at the most amazing boutique hotels in Milos. But it did cost me a lot more than it would have for a similar hotel on a nearby island like Serifos.
But unlike islands like Mykonos, where everything is crazy expensive, you can find other ways to save in Milos.
Con: Limited Nightlife
If you are looking for nightlife like in Mykonos, Milos won’t be the island for you. It is a small quiet, somewhat romantic island.
While an island that doesn’t prioritize partying might not be a big deal for me, it could be a deal breaker for you.
How Many Days Should You Visit Milos?
To get the most out of visiting the island of Milos, I really recommend visiting for at least 4 nights!
With four nights you will have enough time to explore the island fully with time for a boat tour.

Final Thoughts on Visiting Milos
In the end, the pros really outweigh any of the cons of visiting Milos. It just comes down to properly planning your trip.
To summarize I recommend, visiting at the end of May or mid-September, getting a rental car, and booking your hotel well in advance!
Milos is such a magical island to include in your Greek Island itinerary this summer!

Where to After Milos?
After enjoying the island of Milos, the best island to visit next is Sifnos! Located just a short ferry ride away.
Sifnos offers an even more authentic Greek island experience! I recommend spending at least a few days in Sifnos, before exploring nearby islands like Serifos!
