Astrology is having a major moment right now, and I can’t get enough of it. Since travel is my main focus, I started wondering: how can astrology and travel planning work together?
Should we consider astrology when deciding where and when to travel? And what about Mercury retrograde—does it really mean we should avoid trips altogether?
These are just a few of the questions I want answers to…
So, let’s dive into this fascinating topic and explore whether your horoscope should influence when you book your next adventure.

Astrology as a Tool, Not a Rule
So I am not an astrologer, but I have had many readings and love to learn as much as possible.
Any professional astrologer will tell you that while astrology can offer insights, it shouldn’t be used as a strict rule for making decisions, including travel.
Astrology, when used correctly, should be more of a tool to understand the current energies and how they could enhance or hinder a situation.
You always have free will, and just because astrology says it’s not “optimal” to do something doesn’t mean you should take that as written law.
For example, if the transits suggest you might feel more emotional or lonely during specific periods, it doesn’t mean you should cancel your solo trip. Instead, consider this as a cue to plan ahead!
Perhaps book a few group tours or social activities where you can meet people. This approach allows you to balance your need for company with the independence of solo travel.
Key Transit for Travel
Astrologically, there are times when traveling could simply be better than others. But there is no way for me to give you a concrete answer without knowing your birth chart.
However, some houses are known to be associated with travel:
The 9th House: The 9th House has been associated with foreign travel and long-term travel. Transits through the 9th house that could be beneficial for travel are when the north and south nodes are moving through your 3rd and 9th house.
Another thing you can look out for is when there is a full moon in the 9th or 3rd house.
My 9th house is Sagutarious, and my 3rd house is Gemini. So when there is a full or new moon in Sagittarius or in Gemini, travel might be coming up a lot for me.
If you are wondering what the hell is a house in Astrology, you should watch the video below:
To look up what planets are in your houses you can either do it on the Chani App or in Astroseek for free.
Best App For Astrology
The Chani App is hands down the best choice for anyone interested in astrology. Whether you stick with the free version or upgrade to the paid one, there’s so much to learn and explore!
Even though the transits I mentioned above are an indicator that it could be a good time to travel, you should reference your personal astrological chart for best results.
So, if you are really serious about learning about these transits, I suggest you consult an astrologer.
Debunking Mercury Retrograde Myths:
Mercury Retrograde often gets a bad rap, especially among travelers. Three to four times a year, Mercury appears to move backward in the sky, and this period is infamous for causing mix-ups, delays, and frustrations, particularly regarding communication and travel.
Common Misconceptions:
One of the biggest myths about Mercury Retrograde is that it’s a terrible time to travel or start anything new.
While it’s true that this period is associated with certain challenges, it doesn’t mean that travel plans are doomed to fail.
Instead, Mercury Retrograde can be a time to exercise caution and double-check details, not a reason to cancel plans altogether.

Navigating Travel During Mercury Retrograde Effectively:
- Triple-Checking Travel Arrangements and Reservations: Always review your bookings, especially during Mercury Retrograde. For example, when I was traveling solo to Seville, I thought I had booked my airport pickup. It turned out, I never finalized the transaction. This oversight is exactly the kind of thing that tends to happen more frequently during these periods. A quick double-check could save you a lot of trouble.
- Allowing Extra Time for Travel: Delays are more common during Mercury Retrograde, so it’s wise to give yourself additional time to get to the airport or to navigate through traffic. This buffer can help reduce stress if things don’t go as smoothly as planned.
- Being Prepared for Potential Delays or Miscommunications: Keep important documents handy, confirm times and dates, and maintain a flexible attitude. Misunderstandings are more likely during this time, so clear communication is crucial.

IMPORTANT: AI and Astrology.
Do not use AI for Astrology. It is consistently WRONG. AI scrapes information off the internet, which can be wrong.
While I love using ChatGPT to get ideas for where to travel or help me clarify wording, you can’t trust it for fact-based things.
For example, I asked for the dates of Mercury retrogrades in 2025, and it came up with some ridiculous answers that weren’t true.
There is so much free human-written information out there for you to learn about astrology; you don’t need to ask AI.
Final Thoughts on Using Astrology for Travel Planning
If there’s one thing to remember from this post, it’s that planning travel during favorable astrological periods can be rewarding.
However, when the astrological forecast is complex or unfavorable, pay extra attention to your plans and bookings!
