How many flights a year should you take to make a membership worth it? 

In order to figure out how many trips to the airport in a calendar year you need to make it worth it, you will also have to calculate how much you spend when you go to the airport on food and alcoholic drinks. 

Since we can’t put a price on the lounge experience itself, I thought it was best to approach it based on the financial products you buy in the airport terminal. 

The Standard Membership for the Occasional Traveler

If you’re not jet-setting every other week but still want a taste of the lounge life, the occasional traveler membership is a great option. It’s got a $99 annual fee, and you’ll pay $35 for each lounge visit.

Think about your usual airport routine. Those snacks and drinks can easily total up to $45, right? Or maybe you’re splurging up to $75 for a bit of comfort during your long layover.

So when do you actually start saving with this Priority Pass? If your airport snack runs are costing you $45, then after just 3 lounge visits with your Pass, you’re already getting more bang for your buck. 

And if you’re typically spending $75 each time? By the second visit, you’re winning.

Here’s the simple math:

• At $45 per airport visit, get the Priority Pass and you’ll break even at visit number 3.
• At $75 per airport visit, you’ll be ahead of the game starting with your second lounge entry.

Remember, we’re talking numbers here — the real treat is kicking back in a lounge with comfy seats, snacks, and Wi-Fi that doesn’t battle with a hundred other travelers.

For the occasional flyer, those little luxuries can make all the difference!

Let’s go over the Standard Plus membership

This is the membership I currently have. The priority pass cost for annual membership is priced at $329 for 10 visits. Quick math tells us that’s about $32.90 per lounge entry.

Now, think about what you’d usually spend at the airport. Snacks, a meal, a couple of drinks — it can add up to $45 or even $75 easily.

So when does the Priority Pass start saving you cash? If you’re the one who spends around $45 each airport stay, you’ll need to hit up the lounge about 8 times a year to start seeing savings. That works out to 4 roundtrips a year. 

Spend more like $75 each time? You’ll be in the money-saving zone by your 5th visit.

Here’s the deal: the more you use it beyond these points, the more you save. And that’s not even counting the quieter space, free Wi-Fi, and other lounge perks that can make your travel day a breeze.

In short:

• Spend $45 a visit? The Priority Pass pays off after your 8th lounge visit.
• Spend $75 a visit? You’ll benefit from the Pass starting at visit number 5.

My guess is if you are traveling enough to want the Prestige Membership, you might already have status with an airline where you get lounge access for free.

In my opinion, the real win for these memberships is for the Standard & Standard Plus memberships.
